  1. Hi, We are online with our new Blog, in time for our travelers to give us feedback.

    • Thanks for your help Lonny–we are eager to keep the post current with news of our trip. God has blessed us with this work and also with you. Asante Sana (Swahili for “Thank You very Much”) Taryn

  2. We are finally packed and completely ready to go. God has blessed us by multiplying our efforts in order to get ourselves packed and ready on time. We look forward to what He has in store for us. Please keep our group and the African people in your prayers. I keep thinking of the verses concluding the book of Matthew stating “Go ye thererfore, and teach all nations… and lo I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” How great is our God??

  3. We are here in Africa and doing wonderful. We got here Friday afternoon to Tanzania. All are well. Mike got plans lined out yesterday and is in town today with some local villagers and Charlie, another volunteer from Flordia, to purchase materials. The weather is warm but just perfect. God has provided in so many ways already we are excited to share when we get back. The kids have been teaching the village children songs and games and we have all been busy learning the language! Please keep us in your prayers! Our prayers are with each of you.

    • We are praying for you and the family and we are glad to hear that all is going well. May the Lord continue to bless!!! Tell Mike Happy Father’s Day from all of us! Give the kids hugs. What a great learning experience for them. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you. We will continue prayers and may the villagers see and accept Jesus through you and the children!! Take care of yourselves!

  4. “Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily
thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee
the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in
Him; and He shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37: 3-5
Thanks for undertaking this project, committing yourselves for this summer, and for trusting the Lord with all your hearts. We’re praying for
you and all the children who are being helped. Let us know of your needs
so we can ask our Father with you.

    • Gail–as you can see we have been busy. Thanks for your prayers and thoughts. We are the ones who are blessed and can see the hand of the Lord up close and personal. Today is the first day to an internet cafe for me to use. We rode the dolla dolla–that is a trip. Last count was 25 people packed in the mini van. They are frugal with their fuel. Please be updated with the blogs and of course with your personal assistant Becky. She knows first hand and what a blessing she was here. God has truelu blessed her in building relationships even when the language is a barrier–no barrier for her or Mike! I was sorry so see her leave for the states. This will probably be the last time before we go. We have some committments to kep and will probably not be in town. Asante Sana (Thank You very much) God be with you! Love you, Taryn

  5. Yay! Glad to know you all are there and things are moving along. Just a quick note: Tanzania Orphan Project is now on Twitter and has been on Facebook for some time now.

We’ll do our best to keep everyone updated through these avenues! All the best to everyone!

    • JEN! Good to hear from you! Thanks for all your work to keep the project updated. We have many pictures–I believe Becky took over 4,000 of them! Yes–that is not a type error! I have some—but she took most of them. Some amazing things have happened that can only be by the Lord’s help. Will fill you in when we return. In about ten days or so. God bless and give those kids a hug for me. Miss you! Taryn

  6. Hi Taryn,
I was so happy last night to learn about what you are doing from my brother and sister-in-law in Lincoln and to find your website. My daughter is in Tanzania right now too with ShareHim in Mybeya. We will certainly be keeping all of you in our prayers and hope you can share how we can help with resources in your blog. May God bless and protect you and supply your every need!

    • thanks for the reply to the website. While we were in the field we have no access to internet so was unable to return or even see the blogs peole have been leaving. Thank you so much for the prayers-they are most needed. Life in Tanzania is relaxed—-for the ones living here. We have been very busy with an “effort” for Share Him right here in our village of Mtakuja. My 14 year old granddaughter is preaching with vigor! The children in surrounding villages seem amazed at her courage. She is proclaiming the love of the Lord for all and it is touching hearts. We were unable to travel to Mybeya because of the distance from Mtakuja so received permission to have a satelight (?) campaign. We have plans for visiting the two nearby primary schools for a donation of school supplies. Although we have been involved with the feeding and clothing projects in 5 villages since arrival, we also had some medical and school supplies donated. It is a very desperate situation and I am sure the school supplies will be most welcome. Our rescources are limited as you might imagine, but we have been able to distribute most of the donations that were brought with us. We plan to return to America soon and will have the usual follow up to the churches that extend an invitation for information. Maybe your home church/group will be interested? Some of our group returned July 9 and are already making plans to share in Iowa. Thank you for your interest and prayers. Our God is Good! Our Lincoln, NE address is: Tanzania Orphan Project, PO Box 6451, Lincoln, Nebraska 68506 if you would like to help with funding. As they say in Tanzania–Mungu Akubariki. (God Bless You) With Love, Taryn

  7. Hi! Taryn..
May God receives the glory for making you doing
what he plan for his Children.
We all love them and I’m with you in prayers so that you may have enough energy to move foward towards archievements.
I promise to visit Mtakuja by the time i’ll be there in Moshi(T.P.C)
    God be with you all.

  8. Taryns Sister Linda Says:

Taryn and her family are having difficulties with internet service in Tanzania. She asked me to do a little updating.

Hailey McIntosh (Taryns grandaughter) has been doing Share Him in Tanzania, and reports are she is a natural. Her excitement, knowledge, trust and love of Jesus inspires many of the boys and girls to want to learn more about him.

Hailey, her cousins and younger sisters have been teaching some of the children to play their clapping hands game, and sing songs. All seem to enjoy it very much. Misty McIntosh and Becky Needles have been busy doing what they can medically, and teaching about plant based nutrition. Scott McIntosh and Mike Needles have been working with some of the boys teaching some wood working skills, painting preparing ground for gardening. Taryn has purchased mats and bedding, Visiting families, and re-establishing friendships within the local communities.
There has been planting of gardens, building bunk beds, along with many projects that will have to wait for Taryn to report on.

The country is beautiful this time of year. They are all in good health and excited to be involved with such a wonderful project. God is so awsome! The family has been so blessed with their efforts in his name.

Please keep them in your prayers! Their prayers and mine are with each of you.

    Sincerely

  9. All is well in Africa! As you may have guessed, our ability to go online changed and we were unable to update you with our goings-ons as we had hoped to do. Thank the Lord our connections with Him never fail! The Needles family left Africa on Thursday and made it home safe and sound. Please continue to pray for the others still there for a few more weeks.
God opened many doors during our stay. We are now in a partnership with another organization in Tanzania who’s focus is on training orphans and at-risk children job skills. Mike worked with them in teaching the kids there how to “bid” carpentry jobs (such as making bunk beds for us) and on how they should be made and with what materials. In the future we hope to send some of the orphans from the orphange there to learn job skills as they get older. Several jobs were completed on site that needed done including cleaning out the old well and filling it with quartz rocks for filtration that will serve water for agricultural purposes. Many relationships were built within the community and the village people are very excited about the orphanage and working together. We visited all of the surrounding villages where the orphans we are supporting are living, provided food and clothing, got updates on each one, and added a few more orphans to the evergrowing list of kids that need help. I took pictures of each and ever orphan and will personally update the website with these pictures within the next 2-4 weeks after the others return to the states.
Officially, the orphanage is ready for the children to move in. The new well is not up and going yet but should be by the time the others come home. We need your help. The number one need of the orphanage is a Western, full-time presence to live at the orphanage and oversee it, raising the children to love the Lord. As soon as God leads us and the Christian couple He is impressing together, the kids can move in. I’ve read your comments asking what you can do to help. This is number one on the list. Please pray about this. The children are ready and waiting. We know God has the answer. Let’s all lift this matter up to Him that He may be glorified and praised.
Also, we completed a Vacation Bible School series (which amazingly enough had never been done there before), sermons, church programs, health talks, and Hailey started preaching a 19 meeting ShareHim series on the 4th of July! I can’t think of a better day than Independance day to share His love for each of us. Knowing the true freedom from guilt His sacrifice provided for all people of all nations. The last night before we left, Hailey made a call for all to come forward who would like to pursue baptisimal studies and about 15-20 people came forward! God is great!
It has been amazing to see God’s hand each step of the way. The saying “Where God Guides, He Provides” has been quite evident each day.
We would love to come to your church and share about this mission trip and the orphanage that God blessed us to be a part of. If you would like to have us come, please have your pastor contact us through the website or contact us personally.
We also want to thank each person who contributed prayers and donations that made this trip possible. It leaves us speechless (which is quite a task if you know Mike or I). To God be the glory.
We look forward to seeing you soon, Becky

    • HI BECKY–JUST A NOTE TO SAY LITTLE NANCY AND TINA come to the orphanage singing daily–Hmmm and wide–Hmm and wide. They are adorable! Nancy was trying to teach some others but that is all she could remember in English. How old is she 3 or 4? “A little child shall lead them!” Also Gordy and the rest, when they come, are singing “Cast your burdens…On Jesus…for He cares for you”. I hear many of them humming it even when they aren’t singing it. Even the big boys at church this weekend sang that song with the motions to go along. They had great big smiles and it is evident your love to them is in their hearts. Your Vacation Bible School was a big success! They miss you all–Taylor ,Sidney, and Ethan. Olivia is trying her best to keep them busy around the playground area. Hailey is busy practicing her sermons! Charlie misses Mike so much! Love you and see you soon! Thanks so much for all you all did for Tanzania Orphan Project and for the Lord. Bwana Asifiwe! Love You!

  10. I have received news the well we have long awaited for is in and officially pumping water! Charlie is happy (Charlie is our agricultural technician and building supervisor–he needed water for planting crops and making mortar for the guest house…) The village is happy–it is the first privately owned well in the area. We are happy…water is essential for healthy children AND adults…We will be adding pictures as we received them. A group of benevelont individuals is traveling to Tanzania to check on the project September 1 so the updates will be forthcoming. Praise the Lord for this blessing. More to come…

  11. Dear Taryn and all other friends, Praise to the Lord.
Thank you very much for the nice jobs you are doing at Mtakuja. God bless you. People of Mtakuja village are poor due to shortage of water both for domestic use and for agriculture irrigation. Now people are happy to have both domestic water and some for irrigation. Charlie is a good old man with a lot of experiences and he is doing wonderful job especially mixing with the community. Dear Taryn remember Simon the orphan boy who is still uncertain about his education from next year which is also his year to do his form four national examinations which will also determine his future.
We pray for your health and God to bless you richly. ASANTE SANA.

  12. wow, it seems forever since we have been over in Africa, but man when I see pictures of the kids and Mt. Kili, all the memories flood my soul. God is so good I tell you. It was hard at times, I missed my friends and family back in the States, but what made it easier was having my family with me. I had my Grandma Tary, my Mom and my Dad, my sisters, my Aunt Becky and Uncle Mike, and I had my cousins to play with, so that made my trip a little lighter. When I was in Africa I learned many things, but mostly what i learned was how to praise the Lord, He is so good. He fulfilled my Grandma’s dream. She wanted me to go to Africa, and She prayed all the time that I would go, and what happened? I went. And what a time that I had over there. She told me so many times that she was proud of me. It was so comforting to hear her say that. I love her so much! I am so thankful that the Jesus blessed me, by giving me a grandma that loves the Lord, and does His work. ~Hailey McIntosh

  13. God Continues to bless this project. The 4 bedroom guest house is complete waiting for workers… The fence surrounding the compound is being planted with tall thick bushes to mark the bounderies. The work continues to move forward and the prayer request is for a matron supervising the children who will be living in the childrens home on site. We have the bunk beds completed and in the girls ward and boys ward…the home is beautiful! Benches have come in. We are looking for someone who will lovingly guide the children to have knowledge of Christ, care for their daily needs and see to it they go to school on a daily basis–5 days a week. We will wait for God’s guidance knowing He is working on someone’s heart already. Unitl next time–God Bless. In Christian Love, Taryn

  14. It seems like forever since we were last with our friends in Tanzania. Yet, when I look at the calander it has been just 3 months since we returned. I find myself thinking about the situation there often. And the question arises, who will be Jesus to them? Who will be Jesus to the multitudes of children who are orphans or are about to become orphans? …Maybe it’s you! …Pray about it.
